The luxury of making a
long distance call, at your convenience, for as long as you want!
This was completely an unheard of scenario, but today this is taking
shape. What has come to our rescue is a new technology called VoIP
technology, which simply means Voice over internet protocol.
Conventionally we have been using our regular analog phones to place
calls. The manner in which an analogue phone functions is completely
different from a phone facilitating VoIP telephony. To use VoIP,
it is essential to have a high speed broadband internet connection.
Once we are ready with a broadband connection, we can place calls in a
number of ways. VoIP calls can be placed in three different ways.
* Using an Analog telephone adapter. * Using an IP phone * Wireless VoIP
However the procedure of placing a call via VoIP remains the
same. When a call is placed using the broadband internet, the voice of
the caller is converted from analog data to small packets of digital
audio data and transferred using broadband lines to the server from
where it is transferred to the caller. But before the caller receives
the audio data it is converted back to analog form. And the minutes that
are consumed in this transfer and receipt are called VoIP
minutes.
VoIP technology is relatively much new but still it has gathered
enough attention. It sure has the power to completely revolutionize
the manner we make calls.
